7 tips to reach Search Engine Success
These are just the tip of the iceberg but they are commonly missed points
1. Make sure your site passes W3C validation. It just means it works
2. Make sure you have plenty of original content on your site.
3. Keep your site up to date - have a blog and use it.
4. Use your Title tag properly - unique title tag for every page and use your keywords in it. Look at this page - It says what this page is about, it doesn't say 'welcome' or 'Steve Neale' or anything like that.
5. Get quality inbound links. Research your (successful) competitors and see where they are getting links from and try to get the same, plus more. 1 link from a 'PageRank 8' website is worth countless 'PageRank 2' links.
6. Use the Heading tags to properly structure your page
7. Keep each page to the same content theme, preferably 350 - 500 words
Bonus point 8!: Ensure your images are named well (ie 'water_cooler.jpg' rather than 'dscn4512.jpg') and make sure the ALT tag is used properly.
